Leaders, women, Latinas: Tatiana (Tati) Silva is a social entrepreneur and co-founder of FA.VELA, based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil; Beatriz Sanchez has been recognised as one of the most influential executives in Latin American wealth management, based today in Zurich, Switzerland.
Tatiana and Beatriz were brought together by the Wealth Inequality Initiative, when the Julius Baer Foundation started supporting FA.VELA in its mission to tackle wealth inequality by advancing the entrepreneurial, digital transformation of youth in Brazilian favelas.
In Perspectives #8 we aimed to unveil what made the difference in the growth and success of two leaders like Tati and Beatriz. They are from different walks of life and have experienced inequality and adversity in different ways. For both of them, the life-changer was the education that their parents fought to provide them, opening up opportunities in their lives.
Today, they both place education at the centre of their efforts to increase inclusion and tackle wealth inequality, and they have clear messages for the richest 1% of the world: step out of the social bubble, dare to share, dare to multiply!
Tatiana Silva is the co-founder and president of FA.VELA.
Tatiana was born and raised in the outskirts of Belo Horizonte, in Brazil.
In addition to graduating in Social Communication (UFMG), Tatiana also gained education in Social Sciences (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and a master's degree in Geography (UNESCO IHE/UFMG).
She built up experience in research and consulting in countries across Africa and Europe as well as in Brazil. Tatiana represented the Americas in the Young Delegation of the Water World Council and has integrated the Administrative Board of the Water Youth Network.
In 2017, Tatiana achieved first place in the Pitch Competition of the Seventh UNESCO NGO FORUM in Saudi Arabia.
Beatriz Sanchez is a Member of the Executive Board, Head of Americas at Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd., and a Member of the Board of the Julius Baer Foundation.
Born and raised in Cuba, she had to leave the country with her family when she was 3 years old after the revolution. The family decided to move to Miami to allow Beatriz and her brother to grow up in a free environment. There, Beatriz gained her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami.
Prior to joining Julius Baer in 2017 based in Zurich, Beatriz held successful C-level positions in such companies as Goldman Sachs and HSBC. With over thirty years of leadership experience in managing high- and ultra-high-net-worth clients, various professional sources have recognised Beatriz as one of the most influential executives in Latin American wealth management.
Her commitments to support humanitarian and women’s rights have also led her to become an active member of the advisory board of various non-for-profit organisations, among which the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security in Washington.
Beatriz is married and has two children.
